Case hardening (carburizing) of steel

Case hardening (carburizing followed by hardening and tempering) is a thermochemical treatment that increases the wear resistance of the part surface. The surface is first enriched with carbon, then hardened from the austenitizing temperature and finally tempered to the target properties. We carry out the process in furnaces with a controlled protective atmosphere, where we control the temperature and carbon potential and the process is continuously recorded. This gives stable, repeatable results.

In 2022 we commissioned a new fully automated multi-purpose furnace line that further improves the efficiency and quality of production.

Why choose case hardening

  • Controlled process (temperature, carbon potential) with graphical recording of key parameters

  • Stable, repeatable results suitable for single parts and series production

  • Further processing can follow as required (on the same equipment)

Typical applications

Case hardening is used mainly for parts where wear resistance of the surface and a long service life under operating loads are important (for example gears, shafts, pins and other functional components).

Technical information (load capacities)

Maximum load dimensions: on request

Maximum load weights: on request

How an order proceeds

  1. Enquiry – send us the drawing/STEP file and the dimensions and weights of the parts.

  2. Feasibility check – we check the load size and weight limits and recommend the process settings.

  3. Processing – treatment in a controlled atmosphere with online recording of parameters.

  4. Inspection and dispatch – final inspection and handover as agreed.

Load dimensions and weights on request – we will check the feasibility for your parts.

Yes. Quenching in an AS 140 salt bath causes less distortion than harsher quenching media and leaves the surface bright and clean. We will confirm on request whether it is suitable for your parts after carburizing.
