Nitrocarburizing

Nitrocarburizing is a thermochemical treatment in which both carbon and nitrogen diffuse into the surface layer of the steel. The result is a surface with higher hardness and wear resistance, while the required core properties are retained.

When nitrocarburizing is used

Nitrocarburizing is used where the surface wear resistance and service life of a part need to be increased, for example:

  • screws and fasteners

  • pins

  • gears and other machine parts

What nitrocarburizing offers you

  • higher surface wear resistance

  • stable, repeatable results in series processing

  • available with or without oxidation, depending on the part requirements and the desired surface appearance

Technical information for your enquiry (what we need)

So that we can propose the right procedure and lead time, please send us:

  • material (steel grade)

  • dimensions and quantity of parts (pieces / series)

  • whether you require treatment with / without oxidation

  • required properties according to the drawing (e.g. target hardness / functional surfaces / tolerances)

It is a thermochemical treatment with diffusion of both carbon and nitrogen that increases the hardness and wear resistance of the surface.

Yes, we carry out the process with or without oxidation, depending on the functional and appearance requirements for the surface.

Typically for parts such as screws, pins and gears where surface wear resistance and service life are key.
